Dota 2 Low Priority: How You Get It and How to Escape

Low priority isn't a ban. It's a separate punishment queue you drop into once your behavior score sinks far enough, and it's deliberately miserable: Single Draft only, longer waits, no rewards. The way out is winning a set number of games in that mode. Here's what lands you there, and how to climb out without sliding straight back in.

How to escape low priority: win the required number of Single Draft games, losses don't move the counter, an abandon resets it to zero, and toxicity while you grind just adds fresh reports.
How to escape LP and what resets your progress.

What low priority actually is

Think of it as Dota putting you in timeout with the other offenders. While you're stuck in LP:

The queue itself is longer too. Valve isn't subtle about wanting you out of there.

What lands you in it

One report won't do it. Low priority is the accumulated weight of behavior offenses finally tipping over. The usual suspects:

Why some reports count and most are just noise is the whole story in why your behavior score drops.

How to escape low priority

There's one path out, and it's blunt: win the assigned number of Single Draft games. Here's the part the wiki-copying guides keep botching. They do not have to be wins in a row. A loss doesn't reset you, it just doesn't move the counter, so you're back where you were and you queue again. What actually wrecks your progress is an abandon. Bail on an LP game and you reset the counter AND eat a matchmaking ban of around 20 minutes on top. So the plan writes itself:

  1. Only queue when you've got time for a full game. An abandon here is the worst thing you can do.
  2. If you start to tilt, mute everyone. A fresh counted toxicity report just adds more games.
  3. Play to win, not for your stats. Wins are the only thing the counter cares about.

How not to come back

Grinding out the games doesn't fix what put you there. If your behavior score is still in the dirt, two ugly matches drop you right back in. The smarter move is figuring out what keeps triggering your counted reports and killing that one habit. Paste a Match ID on the home page and the breakdown shows who pressed Report, on whom, at what minute, and what led up to it. Usually it's the same short list every time: alt-pinging your own teammates, flaming after you die, taunting at the worst possible moment. All easy to fix once you can see it. Run a report tracker over your recent games and the pattern jumps out.

FAQ

How many games do I need to win? Depends on how bad it was. Usually a handful of wins for a first trip; repeat or serious offenses push the number up.

Can I play with a friend in low priority? Yeah, you can party up, but the match still runs in the penalty queue and Single Draft. Your friend just suffers with you.

Is it permanent? No. The penalty clears once you hit the win count. But a low behavior score will keep dragging you back until you fix the cause.
