How to Raise Your Dota 2 Behavior Score: A Real Plan

There's no "reset my score" button. It's a grind. But the grind comes in smart and dumb flavors: you can bang out 200 turbo games and barely move, or spend the same hours for triple the payoff. Below is which modes actually clean your score, why commends barely count, and how to stop catching communication reports altogether. Valve doesn't publish exact numbers, so where you see figures, treat them as community estimates, not guarantees.

Mode is everything: why turbo is a trap

The classic beginner mistake is queuing turbo because "games are shorter." The catch: a clean turbo game gives you roughly half the behavior score of an All Pick one, while the report penalty stays exactly the same. Do the math, small plus, full minus, terrible ROI. And the higher your score climbs, the less each game pays out, down to pennies near the ceiling (numbers in the table below). Going from zero to 12k is hundreds of clean games, and every one counts, so pick your mode with your head.

What actually works better:

Behavior score gained per clean game: All Pick pays roughly double Turbo. 1–3000 gives +50 and +25, 3000–9000 gives +25 and +12, 9000–12000 gives +15 and +7. A commend is +15 and the score updates every 15 matches.
Per-game gain by bracket and mode. Figures are community estimates; Valve doesn't publish exact numbers.

Commends help, but you can't rely on them

Community estimates put a commend at about +15 behavior score (see the table), so praise really does count and roughly cancels one upheld report. The catch: you can't farm them. Begging in your name is pointless, people specifically refuse to commend players who do that, and commend-swapping is unreliable. So the dependable lever is the absence of negatives you control, not the plusses you don't. Which makes rule number one simple: never abandon. One abandon eats the gains from several clean games and hits your score directly, no report required. Even in a hopeless match, sit it out to the end. It's literally the cheapest thing you can do for your score.

Go silent: remove communication as a report source

You can't get a comms report for a message you never sent. So the most reliable move is to cut the ability to slip up in the first place:

Why this matters specifically for your score is in the hidden report mechanics: communication score isn't just chat, it's any in-game interaction.

How long it takes, and how not to crack

Your score recalculates not after every game but roughly every 15 matches. So checking it after one clean game is pointless, the first real movement usually shows up after a couple dozen games of calm play. Be patient: 20 to 30 clean games with no abandons and no toxicity, and it's not just the number that changes, it's the quality of your lobbies. If you're stuck in low priority, win the assigned number of Single Draft games first, and remember only an abandon there resets the counter to zero.

First, find out why it dropped

Cleaning it blind is dumb, you'll just fall back into the same hole. Find the cause first: paste a Match ID on the home page and the breakdown shows who pressed Report on you and for what across your recent games. It's usually one repeating pattern (alt-pings, chat on tilt, abandoned games), and that's the thing to switch off. Why the score slides at all is in why your behavior score drops, and how many reports actually drag you to LP is in how many reports it takes.

FAQ

Does turbo raise behavior score faster? No, the opposite. A turbo game gives about half the gain while the report penalty is the same. Normal unranked or Ability Draft is better for grinding.

Does commend swapping help? A commend is worth a fair bit (around +15), but you can't reliably beg or swap for one, and asking in your name just puts people off. So bet on the absence of reports and abandons, not on farming praise.

Can I clean it in a couple of days? No. It recalculates every ~15 games, so this is weeks of calm play, not a sprint.
